Liposuction is a type of cosmetic procedure in which fat in the body is broken up and suctioned out. To do this, Dr. Hu will use a hollow, thin instrument called a cannula, which is attached to a high-pressure vacuum.
This type of procedure can be performed on many different body parts such as the abdomen, thighs, arms, neck, calves, chin, abdomen, flanks, and buttocks.
How is Liposuction Performed?
Prior to your Valencia liposuction surgery, Dr. Hu will mark the area to be worked on with a surgical marker. This will help him determine where to make an incision, in addition to guiding him in the sculpting process.
Liposuction can be performed under general or local anesthesia. The use of the SmartLipo laser can be used to safely perform liposuction under local anesthesia. At the time of consultation, Dr. Hu can discuss both traditional tumescent liposuction and SmartLipo to determine which modality would be best suited for your goals.
Tumescent Lipo
The tumescent liposuction technique involves Dr. Hu giving the patient an injection under the skin. This injection contains salt water that includes lidocaine, small amounts of adrenaline, and a general anesthetic. This combination of elements works to break up fat cells and results in less bleeding and bruising than traditional liposuction.
Dr. Hu will make a small incision in the area to be worked on and then insert a thin tube. The tube is connected to a vacuum-like machine that works to remove excess fat. This also allows Dr. Hu to contour the area so you can have a more toned appearance.
SmartLipo
For SmartLipo, tumescent fluid is also used. However, before the fat is sucked out, the SmartLipo machine is used to insert a small laser underneath the skin to help melt the fat prior to extraction. Because the fat has melted, it requires less force when the fat is sucked out, and therefore the patient will feel less discomfort, which is why SmartLipo can be performed without the need for general anesthesia.
